The CAA is the famed athletic club of the 1890s located on Michigan Avenue in the heart of the cultural epicenter overlooking Millennium Park.

We are honored to host Dr. Babak J. Dr. Mehrara is the American Association of Plastic Surgeons 2017 Visiting Professor and the William G. Cahan Chair in Surgery.

We will also be holding our Annual Members Board Meeting and ask that all of our society members join us. We hope you can join us for this exciting evening of dinner and drinks with colleagues to learn about this evolving hot topic in this fantastic venue!

"Updates and Innovations in the Surgical and Medical Treatment of Lymphedema: What We Know and What We Don’t Know”

About Dr. Mehrara:

Dr. Mehrara is the Professor and Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and William G. Cahan Chair of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center / Weill Cornell University Medical Center in Manhattan, New York.   He has lectured nationally and internationally on lymphedema and breast reconstruction and is a NIH-funded Primary Investigator on lymphedema.  He has authored and co-authored over 200 manuscripts and book chapters and served as Chair for numerous national committees and conferences. Dr. Mehrara received his medical degree from Columbia University Medical Center.  He completed his general surgery and plastic surgery residency training at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York.  His fellowship training in microsurgery was at University of California at Los Angeles in southern California.

Dr. Mehrara’s research interest are centered around lymphedema — the swelling of an extremity that develops in some cancer patients who have lymph nodes removed for cancer treatment. He has developed a number of models to study lymphedema in the laboratory with a goal of understanding how lymphedema develops. His long-term goal is to design novel methods including surgery and medical treatments to prevent and treat lymphedema. Dr. Mehrara offers liposuction, lymph node transfer, or lymphatic by-pass procedures to appropriate surgical candidates. His NIH funded laboratory has collaborations with researchers at Stanford University, MD Anderson Cancer Center, USC Medical Center, and Beth Israel Medical Center.
